FIRE PROTECTION IN FACADE

Safe and tested solutions for perimeter fire barrier

Curtain wall

For your convenience, we offer the same webinar in two different timings. Please select your preferred time from below and register.

Individual participants will receive a certificate of attendance to the email provided during registration. Certificates will be distributed within a week of the event

Like all construction joints, the curtain wall joint is a dynamic system that is constantly moving with minute shifts against the building structure. Specifying a curtain wall system that does not properly address movement, leakage and water ratings could lead to costly retrofitting down the road

The structure of a building changes dramatically during a fire. Components become deformed and facades bulge outwards. Conventional or static firestop solutions can compensate for these deformations only to a limited extent. Gaps and cracks open up between floor decks and walls or curtain wall facade sections, allowing flames, smoke and dangerous fumes to spread.

The perimeter barrier shall be intended to restrict the interior vertical passage of flame and hot gases from one floor to another at the location where the floor intersects the inside of an exterior curtain wall.

A perimeter fire barrier system describes the firestop system installed into the linear opening between a fire-rated floor and a non-rated exterior wall (curtain wall).

Accordingly, this system integrity is determined and tested by the ability of the assembly to resist flaming or the passage of hot gases, while thermal resistance is the ability of a test assembly to retard heat transfer from its fire side to its unexposed side. The Integrity of the perimeter joint protection is dependent upon test wall configuration.

It is important to know that only tested and listed firestop systems, which provide dynamic movement capabilities shall be used for slot gaps between edge of floor slabs and perimeter curtain walls. For example, the sealing membrane created by Hilti CFS-SP WB firestop joint spray is extremely elastic and capable of adapting to such gaps, provides a reliable, fire-resistant membrane.

Our technical webinar will introduce fundamentals of passive fire protection for perimeter joints and how to ensure the proper design and selection for the qualified tested and listed firestop system to maintain the integrity of the façade assembly.

The webinar will focus on and address the following topics:

·       Fire statistics

·       Fire spread in buildings

·       Compartmentation

·       Firestop system components for Facade

·       International Codes and Standards for Facade perimeter fire barrier

·       Comparison between test standards for Facade perimeter fire barrier

·       How to know if the proposed solution is a tested system.

·       How to optimize the design of perimeter fire barrier.

·       Solution for zero spandrel curtain wall

Who Should Attend this Webinar?
